Zwenyslawa (Dzvinka) Zacharczuk

Звенислава (Дзвінка) Мартюк Захарчук народилася 1го січня 1940 р. в Копичинцях, Чортківського району, Тернопільська область в Україні.  Батьки Сильвестер Мартюк і Володимира Сафіян Мартюк з малою Дзвінкою покинули рідні землі в часі Другої Світової Війни, і опинилися в таборі біженців у Лендеку в Австрії.  З часом переїхали до США, де вперше жили в Балтиморі, а опісля в Джерзі Ситі.

Дзвінка була членкою Пласту з молодих літ.  Таборувала на Вовчій Тропі, і згодом вступила в курінь Перші Стежі.  Працювала як пластова виховниця та як редактор курінної ґазетки Стріла.

В 1959р. побралася з інж. Борисом Захарчуком.  Супружжя зажило у Філядельфії, де народилися їхні діти, Данило і Олена.

Дзвінка була активна у заснованю дитячого садочку “Світличка” та 67-го “Музейного відділу” Союзу Українок Америки.  Вона з приятельками Стежинками та Союзянками організували чисельні мистецькі виставки, а коли громада Філядельфії закупила Український Освітньо-Культурний Центер, разом із своїм чоловійком, Борисом, завзято підтримувала цю установу, не лиш фінанцово, але діяльно.  Організувала імпрези, мистецькі виставки, писала статті про діяльність у Центрі, та редактувала Центрову ґазетку.  Додатково, Дзвінка добровільно працювала одержувати Липинський Інститут.

Дзвінка була вічним студентом.  Отримала диплом баклаврата з Drexel University, але постійно дальшу освіту набирала через свою любов до читання та постійними поїздками по світі з чоловійком.  Вона була досвідженою господинею і отримувала велике задоволення принимаючи родину і друзів у своєму гостинному домі.

Останніми роками, хвороба і недуга обмежувала її діяльність у громаді і змушували її перебувати часто у шпиталі.

Дзвінка упокоїлася у вівторок, 2го листопада, залишивши у смутку чоловійка, Бориса, після 62 літ супружжя, сина Данила із дружиною Ксенею Панчак, дочку Оленку (Кіку) з мужем Юрком Курівчаком, внуків Софійку і Луку Захарчук,  Данила і Бориса Хабурських, сватів, та родичів в США, Канаді, Німеччині та Україні.

 Zwenyslawa (Dzvinka) Martiuk Zacharczuk was born on January 1, 1940 in Kopychyntsi, Chortkiv district, Ternopil region, Ukraine. Her parents, Sylvester Martiuk and Volodymyra Safian Martiuk, along with little Dzvinka, left their native land during the Second World War and ended up in a refugee camp in Landeck, Austria. Eventually they moved to the United States, where they first lived in Baltimore and later in Jersey City.

Dzvinka was a member of Plast from a young age. She camped at Vovcha Tropa, and later entered the scouting sorority, Pershi Stezhi. She worked as a scouting counselor and later as the editor of her sorority’s newsletter,  “Strila”.

In 1959, she married Eng. Borys Zacharczuk. The couple lived in Philadelphia, where their children, Danylo and Olena, were born.

Dzvinka was active in founding Svitlychka Co-op Nursery School and the 67th Branch of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America (the “Museum Branch”). She and her friends organized numerous art exhibitions, and when the Philadelphia community purchased the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center, she and her husband, Borys, zealously supported the institution, not only financially but actively. She organized events, art exhibitions, wrote articles about the Center's activities, and, for a time, edited the Center's newspaper. In addition, Dzvinka volunteered supporting the Lypynskyj Institute.

Dzvinka was an eternal student. She received a bachelor's degree from Drexel University, but constantly furthered her education through her love of reading and frequent trips throughout the world with her husband. She was an experienced hostess and greatly enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her hospitable home.

In recent years, her sickness limited her activities in the community and forced frequent hospital stays.

Dzvinka passed onto eternal life on Tuesday, November 2, leaving behind in grief her husband, Borys,  after 62 years of marriage, son Danylo with his wife Xenia Panczak, daughter Olenka (Kika) with her husband George Kurywczak, grandchildren Sofia and Luka Zacharczuk, Danylo and Borys Chabursky, in-laws, and relatives in the United States, Canada, Germany, and Ukraine.

The family asks for prayers for the peaceful repose of Dzvinka’s soul. In place of flowers, those who wish to commemorate Dzvinka’s memory can donate to the following:
