With a heavy heart and profound sorrow, we share with our family and friends that unexpectedly, Yurij (George) Leskiw was called home by our Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 26, 2023.
George was the cherished son of Michael and Lesia Leskiw. He was the beloved brother of Adrian (Elizabeth) and Natalia (Andrew). He was a loving uncle to Andrew Jr, Leanna and Cassandra. He leaves behind his Aunt Maria Leskiw; Uncle Walter (Anna) Leskiw; Uncle Zenko Romanec; Godmother Orysia Kohut; and cousins Michael Romanec, Taras Romanec, Andrew Leskiw (Julia), Patricia Leskiw, Christopher Romanec, Jessica Romanec, Bianca Romanec and Alex Romanec.
Yurij was a joy as a toddler, a busy teenager and his younger years were full of activities. Yurij attended Ukrainian school every Saturday at the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center in Jenkintown, PA. He was a member of the Ukrainian American Youth Association and enjoyed being in summer camps with friends in Ellenville, New York. After grade school, Yurij attended Archbishop Wood High School in Warminster. To continue his education, Yurij chose Kutztown University; in his third year, he had the opportunity to translate a paper from Ukrainian to English earning three extra credits towards his degree . He graduated, with honors, on the Dean's List.
Being sports minded, and while at Kutztown University, he worked for the Reading Phillies. After graduating, he worked at Manor College. The last nine years, and before falling ill, Yurij worked at DeVry University in Fort Washington, PA. There, he received several awards and along with others, a trip to Puerto Rico for his dedicated work with students.
Yurij loved life. His greatest pleasure, while in college, was driving with one of his friends from the east coast to the west coast, living the life. He loved entertaining and throwing barbecues for family and friends. He gave, he shared and always looked out for those who needed help. And yes, he was a sports fanatic. He gave it all, cheering for his teams. Yurij has left a huge void in all our hearts and life will never be the same without him.
Rest in Peace our beloved Yurij, you always will be missed greatly!
Relatives and friends are invited to Juriy's funeral on Thursday at 9 AM at St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church, Warrington, PA. Requiem Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Elkins Park, PA.
We love you very much. You are in our hearts forever!
