Our beloved husband and father, Wolodymyr (Walter) Shandruk, passed away peacefully in his home on October 13, 2024 at the age of 78. The first son of Anastasia (Gocz) Shandruk and Pawlo Shandruk, he was a life-long Philadelphian.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife Anna (Nimczyk) Shandruk, son Walter Shandruk and daughter Irene Shandruk. He also leaves behind two sisters, Maria Shandruk of Philadelphia and Anna Stevens of MI, two brothers, John of PA and Myron of VA, and many nieces and nephews.
Driven by a life-long spirit for learning, he acquired his FCC radiotelephone license early on and worked as a station engineer, soon transitioning to Motorola as a systems service manager. Later, he studied business administration at LaSalle University and went on to earn his MBA in Finance. Mid-career, he shifted to work for the federal government, first as a tax examiner for the IRS, and then as a contracting officer for the Department of Defense.
In his spare time he could be found doing home improvement projects or casually perusing technical magazines. He was a renaissance man who loved to build, create, invent, and innovate. He had a passion for electronics, mechanics, and the physical sciences. Always eager to encourage learning, he was a kind, caring and generous father. He will be dearly missed.
Services will be held at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Philadelphia on October 16, 2024. Viewing will be at 9am followed by the funeral service at 10am. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery. All friends and family are welcome.
