Bill Smith of Cape May, NJ, passed away January 15, 2024 at the age of 72. He was the fifth of five sons of deceased parents, Rose (Martell) and George Smith. He was pre-deceased by brothers Richard, (Marie) and Thomas (Ann). He is survived by brothers Michael, wife Kathy, and Gregory, wife Elaine, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Bill spent his childhood and early adulthood with his parents in a single home on Red Lion Rd. Back then, his neighborhood was comprised mostly of woods and farmers corn fields. A perfect environment for a person who grew to be an active hunter, and fisherman. He took joy in passing his outdoor passion on to his nephews.
At age 70, Bill fulfilled a lifelong desire to parachute from an airplane. He survived the jump, without injury, and took the kidding from others in stride. He was often asked, why would you want to jump from a perfectly sound airplane? His answer was, if you have to ask, you don’t deserve to know.
Bill spent the autumn of his life in Cape May NJ, in the same neighborhood where his parents spent most of their final years. He could often be seen knee deep in the ocean or bay with a fishing rod in hand. Or you might remember him sitting on a bench on the Promenade watching the girls go by.
An interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, Bucks County, at the discretion of the family.
