WASYL WM. SALAK, M.D.
Born January 21, 1929 in Muzhyliv, Ternopil Oblast; he finished High School in Germany and received his Doctorate Degree (M.D.) from Ludwig Maximillian University in Munich, Germany in 1955.
He emigrated to the U.S. and served a one-year internship in Green Point Hospital, N.Y. and then served a five-year residency in General Surgery at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In 1961 he opened his practice, being active in Hahnemann, Germantown, and Temple University Hospitals, and where he trained many aspiring surgeons.
He retired from his practice in 1995 after which he became very involved in many Ukrainian organizations until his 90th birthday.
Dr. Salak passed away after a short illness on May 9, 2023. Private funeral services were held at St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Bristol, PA, followed by internment at St. Andrew’s Cemetery in S. Bound Brook, New Jersey.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Roma; son Alexander; daughter in law Dawn; granddaughter Nicole and grandson Michael; two nieces, Christine Shablowsky with 2 daughters, and Larissa Salak; and also a sister Maria with her family in Ukraine.
