Walter Paskowsky Obituary

Walter J. Paskowsky, a resident of Hatfield, PA and formerly of the Fox Chase section of Philadelphia, died peacefully at his home of Friday, May 25, 2018.  He was 71.

Walt was the son of the late John and Sarah Ostash Paskowsky.  Born and raised in Philadelphia, he was a 1965 graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School.  He had attended LaSalle College before joining the Army Corps of Engineers in 1973 where he worked as a permit inspector.  His position was transferred to Miami Beach around 1975 and he began his career with the United States Coast Guard as a bridge-opening administrator a few years later .

Walt was a drawbridge and bridge administration specialist for the Coast Guard.  Stationed in Florida, he was responsible for developing rules for the maintenance, inspection and administration for drawbridges and bridges in the Seventh Coast Guard District; this included the St. Lucie River in Stuart, FL; the Florida Intracoastal Waterway; the Okeechobee Waterway; the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway in South Carolina; and the St. SImon's Island waterways in Georgia.  He retired in 2002.

Walter was the family historian.  He saved and chronicled thousands of family photos, recently converting those to current media formats.  He left us this great gift.

He was passionate about United States history and cartography [he had dozens of maps in his possession] and he had a great memory for weather disasters.  He also loved bike riding.

He traveled throughout the lower 48 states, visiting all of them during his lifetime.  He enjoyed his memories of growing up in Philadelphia, and kept in touch with his friends from school at Incarnation of Our Lord.

Walt is survived by his sisters Joanne Carr and Carol Talaga, niece Jennifer Walker, nephew Peter Mann, and many dear cousins.

Walter's burial services will be private at the convenience of the family.
