Vera Lupan of Marlton, New Jersey and a former long time resident of Philadelphia, died Saturday, June 7, 2025. She was 97.
Vera Lupan was born on September 29, 1927 in the city of Lubny, and grew up in Chernihiv, in the Poltava Region of Ukraine. Her parents were Michailo and Margareta (Kalff) Stankowitsch. The family fled their home in 1943 under the oppression of Soviet Communist rule and then during and after World War II, they were refugees in Germany.
In a refugee camp in Regensburg, Germany, she met her future husband, Walter Lupan. It was there that they married on June 5, 1949 and then immigrated to the United States in the same year. The young couple started life in Lyndora, PA, lived briefly in Monessen and Erie, PA, then settled and raised their family in Philadelphia, PA.
She was predeceased by her husband Walter, who passed away on January 21, 2011, after 61 years of a lovely marriage. She is survived by her son, Walter Lupan and his wife Olia, her son Roman Lupan and his wife Vinessa, grandchildren Andrew and Nina Lupan, and Victoria Lupan.
Her viewing will be held on Tuesday at 10 AM at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church with Requiem Services to be celebrated at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Lawnview Cemetery, Rockledge, PA.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made in Vera's name to the United Ukrainian American Relief Committee, Inc.
