Uliana Antonenko Obituary

On Tuesday, July 12, 2022, Uliana Antonenko passed away at the age of 97.

Uliana was born on June 25, 1925 in the village of Kovalivka, Politava in Ukraine.  She met Aleksander Antonenko in the village and they were married when Uliana was 16.

During World War 2, she and Alex were placed in DP camps.  After the war, they emigrated to England where their two children were born.  In 1962, they came to the United States and settled in Philadelphia.

Very much involved in church and Ukrainian affairs, Uliana and Alex joined St. Mary's Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church.  Uliana was an active member of the sisterhood and was always working in the kitchen, preparing and serving food during community events.

She loved to cook and sew and her home always had the sweet aroma of baked goods.. The house was filled with embroidered pillows and afghans.

Uliana worked as a sewing machine operator for most of her life and, upon retirement, enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Anne Antonenko; her son, Walter Antonenko (Sheryl); her grandchildren: Helen Sdao, Brian (Rachel), Katie Banks (Albert) and Julie Dupcak (Todd); and her great-grandchildren: Braden, Kelsey, Ashlyn and Jaxon.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Tuesday at 9 AM at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral.  Requiem Services will be celebrated at 10 AM.  Burial will follow at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, South Bound Brook, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Uliana's memory may be made to St. Vladimir's Church.
