Tatiana Hospodarewska, a resident of St. Joseph's Home in Sloatsburg, NY for the last 36 years and formerly of Philadelphia, PA, died Wednesday, July 24, 2024. She was 89.
Born in Starij Sambir, Ukraine, she was the daughter of the late Professor Julian and Helene (Topolnycky) Hospodarewsky. Tatiana emigrated to the United States in 1949 with her parents aboard the USS General Sturgis; they arrived in Boston, MA in July of 1949 and traveled to Philadelphia, PA to take up residence on Germantown Avenue in the city. They were sponsored by the United Ukrainian American Relief Committee (ZUDAK).
Her father Julian died in 1957, leaving her mother Helene to raise her alone; when Helene died in 1987, the Ukrainian community rallied around Tatiana and made sure that her every need would be met. Eventually, with the help of the Rybachok, Rybok and the Lytwyn families, Tatiana was placed in the care of the Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate (SSMI) at St. Joseph's Home in 1988 where she remained for the rest of her life.
Her viewing will be held at St. Joseph's Home in Sloatsburg, NY; Requiem Liturgy will be celebrated by Bishop Paul Chomnycky at 9 AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
Donations in Tatiana's memory may be made to St. Joseph's Adult Care Home, Sloatsburg, NY.
