Stefania Poliszczuk, a longtime resident of North East Philadelphia, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022. She was 94.
Stefania was born in the village of Kryve in the Zubroeze region of Ukraine. During World War 2 she was separated from her mother and taken to Germany for forced labor, not knowing if she would ever see her mother again. Several years later, she was reunited with her mother and her family. After the war, in 1952, she emigrated to the United States and settled in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia.
Stefania is survived by her devoted daughters: Anne Huriy Leskiw (Arty), Maria Tymkiw (Jerry) and Olga Hinkson (Ron); she also leaves behind her dear sister, Marie Luszczak, her brothers Petro Pastuch (Yolanda) and Roman Pastuch and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States, Ukraine and Poland. She was predeceased by her husband Oksentiy (Alex) Poliszczuk, her parents Anna and Ivan Pastuch and her brothers Nicholas and Stefan Pastuch.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Saturday at 9 AM at the Fletcher-Nasevich Funeral Home. Requiem Services will be sung at 10 AM. Burial will follow at Lawnview Cemetery, Rockledge, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Stefania's memory may be made to the United Ukrainian American Relief Committee (ZUDAK); Liturgy offerings in her memory may be made to St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Bristol, PA.
