Stefan Makuch, a retired examiner for the City of Philadelphia Medical Examiners Office, died after a short illness. He was 88.
Born in Zboriw, Ukraine, Stefan was the son of the late Ilija and Bohdanna Rohoszewskyj Makuch. The family emigrated to the United States and settled in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia in 1951. Stefan was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland where he served with the Second Army; he was discharged in 1953 as a PFC.
Stefan married Anna Panczak on December 14, 1968 (this past Saturday would have been their 51st wedding anniversary) and they made their home in Fairmount.
He is survived by his wife Anna; his brother, Bohdan Makuch (Melissa); his niece, Rostyslawa Lasowsky (Zorian); his niece and nephews,: Oksana Lasowsky, Zorian Lasowsky and Adrian Makuch; his brother-in-law Wasyl Panczak and sister-in-law Maria Panczak; his nieces, Xenia Panczak-Zacharczuk (Danylo) and Natalie Panczak Firko (Stephan); and his great-nieces and nephews: Sofia Zacharczuk, Luka Zacharczuk, Alexander Firko and Zachary Firko.
Stefan's family will greet friends on Saturday at 9 AM at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 24th & Poplar Sts. Requiem Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Elkins Park, PA.
