Father Deacon Serge Kowalchuk of Somerdale, New Jersey, died Saturday, February 12, 2022; he was 65.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, Serge was the son of the late Very Reverend Mitred Serhij and Pani Matka Lydia (Bobriwnyk) Kowalchuk.
Serge attended Temple University and Rutgers University. He was ordained a deacon on March 20, 1989. He was Secretary for the Ukrainian National Association (UNA) and also ran the St. Andrew's Book Store in Somerset, New Jersey. Serge was also self-employed as a graphic designer.
Serge enjoyed graphic designs, dancing and especially fishing with his grandson and nephew.
Serge is survived by his wife Maria Wilshynsky-Kowalchuk; his sister, Nila Sendzik and her husband Dr. Nestor Sendzik; his grandson, Alexander Zenowiy Wilshynsky; his step-son, John Wilshynsky and his wife Nicole Vitale-Wilshynsky, Esq.; and his nephew, Peter Sendzik and his wife Kelsey Sendzik.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday at 9 AM at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral. Requiem Services will be sung at 10 AM. Burial will follow at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, South Bound Brook, NJ.
