Born in Purmattom, Kerala, India, on Valentine's Day, the youngest daughter among five sisters and a younger brother, Kunjumol (Sara) came from humble beginnings yet carried with her an extraordinary spirit of generosity, devotion, and love.
In 1976, she courageously immigrated to Philadelphia as a nurse, beginning a decades-long career at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
For nearly 53 years of marriage, she walked through life as the devoted wife of George Varghese, building a home filled with love, laughter, and the comforting smells of her legendary cooking. She was a beloved mother to Mary and Jojy, raising them with wisdom, warmth, and unwavering support. Her greatest joy was found in her three grandsons: Jack, Julian, and Jesse - whose presence brought her immeasurable happiness and pride.
Top her many nieces, nephews, and friends, she was a beloved "Aunty." To family back in Kerala, she was affectionately known as "America Ammachy" - sweet, caring and gentle.
A devoted member of the Indian Orthodox Church, she lived her beliefs through action: comforting the sorrowful, serving quietly, and loving her neighbor as herself. She found joy in simple pleasures, cheering for the Sixers and the Phillies, and radiated kindness in everything she did.
Above all, she was profoundly selfless, a living embodiment of unconditional love. Her first instinct was always to help, to give, to comfort, and to love.
