Santosh Varkey Sr., lovingly known as “Tosh” to all who cherished him, met his Creator in the early hours of February 13, 2026.
On November 16, 1981, Mariamma (“Kunjumol”) and the late P.O. Varkey (“Baby”) welcomed their smiling son into the world. His name could not have been more fitting — Santosh means “happiness” in Malayalam. He grew up as the younger sibling and lifelong best friend of his brother, the late Joby Varkey, Sr.
He loved being known as “Big Daddy Tosh.” Everything about him was big and grand — his smile, his personality, his generosity, and most of all, his heart. Santosh’s heart overflowed with love for his family, and that love was evident to everyone who knew him.
Santosh was baptized into the Mar Thoma Church as an infant. Throughout his childhood, he was a big part of the Sunday School community building a Christian foundation. He was a beloved member of Christos Mar Thoma Church.
He began his academic journey at Cedar Grove Christian Academy and continued his education at Joseph J Greenberg Elementary School through the eighth grade. Santosh graduated from International Christian High School and went on to pursue a career as a Medical Assistant. With determination and hard work, he later became an entrepreneur and property manager, building a life rooted in perseverance and dedication.
In 2008, Santosh was blessed with his firstborn son, Santosh Varkey Jr., marking the beginning of the role he treasured most — being a father. In 2013, he married his beloved wife, Manju, and became the proud father of their daughter, Emma. Their family was completed with the birth of his youngest son, Joby Mathew Varkey, lovingly named in honor of his late brother. Santosh was deeply devoted to his family and embraced his role as protector and provider with pride, always striving to give them the very best.
Tosh was generous, loving, and known for his remarkable sense of humor. His larger-than-life presence filled every room, and he was fiercely protective of those he loved. He took great pride in being a devoted son, husband, and father. His love extended far beyond his immediate family to his uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, friends, neighbors, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. He was a loyal friend and a source of comfort and strength to many.
Even in his final days, it was rare to see Santosh without his smile — a reflection of the joy and warmth he carried throughout his life.
Santosh’s legacy is one of love, faith, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family. Though his absence leaves an immeasurable void, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Santosh is survived by his loving wife, Manju; his cherished children, Santosh Varkey Jr., Emma, and Joby Mathew Varkey; and his devoted mother, Kunjumol. He is also survived by his extended family of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, and countless friends who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, P.O. Varkey, and his beloved brother, Joby Varkey Sr.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
— Psalm 34:18
