Roman (“Муньо”) Lewyckyj passed away peacefully on July 2, 2018 at the age of 91. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Roman had touched throughout his very memorable life.
He is survived by his wife Tatiana (nee Wasylyszyn), sister Chrystina Masiuk and children Ostap (Kate), Olenka Krupa Griffies (Scott), Taras (Susan) and Marta Cairns (David). Beloved grandfather to Chrissy Potts (Harry), Nick, Nina, Lydia, Roman, Luka, and faithful master to his four legged shadow “Oreo”.
Roman was born in Drohobych, Ukraine, and then studied forestry in Germany before immigrating to the US. He served in the US Army from 1950-1952, after which he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. Roman was very active in the Ukrainian community, including Plast (Burlaky) where he was instrumental in passing on his love for nature and all things scouting. He enjoyed hiking in his beloved Alps, skiing and canoeing.
Roman was also one of the founding members of St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church, where he devoted much of his time. He did whatever was needed from serving as head of the church council for many years to making varenycky.
Viewing and Memorial Services will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1013 FoxChase Road, Jenkintown, PA,on Tuesday, July 10th at 9 AM. Requiem Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Elkins Park, PA.
