Robert Ganter Obituary

Robert G. Ganter, a resident of Coopersburg, PA and formerly of the Olney section of Philadelphia, died Saturday, May 4, 2019, after a short illness.  He was 85.

Born and raised in the Kensington section of the city, he was the son of the late Thomas and Pearl (Lawson) Ganter.

He graduated Kensington High School in 1951; he joined the US Army in 1953 and retired as Sergeant E5- Combat Engineer in 1961.  He married Helena Malik on May 12, 1956 at St. Ambrose Church in Olney.  They purchased their 1st house on the 5200 block of "C" street in 1957 where they lived until 1975 when they moved to the 400 block of Geneva Avenue.  During this time, Bob was a Boy Scout leader at St. Ambrose for many, years.  In 1988, the whole family relocated to Coopersburg, PA.  They purchased a farm and subdivided it up for all his children where they all built their homes. The property is now known around town as “The Ganter Compound’;  Bob lived in Coopersburg with his wife and family until his death on May 4, 2019.

Robert worked at Gorlock/France Compressor Products in Newtown PA where he retired at the age of 65 after 47 ½ years.  Robert's greatest pleasures was spending time with his family and teaching his children and many grandchildren about camping and fishing.  He had the best fishing stories- always about the "BIG ONE" that got away!  He loved being surrounded by his family, and could always be counted on for a good laugh.  Pop loved to take his grandkids on tractor rides in the summer around the farm.

He loved all animals but always had a special connection with dogs and would always have treats ready for when someone's dog stop down to visit.

He is survived by his wife, Helene (Malik) Ganter; his daughter, Maryhelene and her husband Richard Nolden and their children: Julia and Brian Huber (their children: Christopher and Laila) and Richard and Christine Nolden (their children: Hunter and Lacey); his son, Robert Ganter and his wife Donna and their children: Ashley and Nick Swavely (their child: Abigail), Melissa Ganter (her child: Ada May) and RJ Ganter; his daughter, Ann Higgins and her husband Frank and their children: Frank and Danielle Higgins (their children: Clara and Madelyn), Nicholas Higgins, Matthew Higgins, Shane Higgins and Kaitlin Higgins; and his daughter, Kate Ludwig and her husband Chuck and their children: Anthony and Jackie Ludwig (their children: Taylor Nagle, Keegan and Kennedy), Justin Ludwig, Cody and Christine Ludwig (and their child Kenzie) and Katrina Ludwig.
