Orest (Richard) Sarachman lived a life shaped by discipline, curiosity, and a strong connection to his Ukrainian heritage. Born in Ukraine and arriving in the United States as a child, he carried both his heritage and his gratitude for new opportunities with quiet pride. Philadelphia became his lifelong home, where he graduated from Northeast Catholic High School and later Temple University.
Orest served his country in the U.S. military reserves, carrying that responsibility with the same sense of duty he brought to the rest of his life. Professionally, he built a varied career in sales and later as a stockbroker, approaching each role with a sharp, analytical mind and a steady work ethic.
He was exceptionally well read, with thousands of books filling his home, and he carried a lifelong commitment to learning about the world. His children remember his love of tennis and the joy he found at his club, as well as summers spent with Ukrainian communities in Wildwood, NJ, and Soyuzivka, in upstate New York. He enjoyed building computers, following politics closely, and engaging seriously with new ideas.
Orest was predeceased by his wife, whom he loved deeply and spoke of often. He is survived by his sons, Michael (Lisa) and Alexander; his sisters, Chrystyna and Iryna; his grandchildren, Mark and Madeline; and his nephews and niece, Carlo, Thomas, and Gabriella. His life reflects intellect, steadfast resolve, and a quiet sense of purpose.
His family will greet friends on Friday at 10 AM at Annunciation BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church. Requiem Services will be sung at 11 AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
