Petro 'Pete' Kit, a long time resident of Philadelphia, died Friday, March 29, 2024. He was 70. Born in Germany, Pete was the son of the late Dmytro and Kataryna (Kubrak) Kit.
He and his parents came to America through the Port of Ellis Island when he was two years old and they became residents of Philadelphia. He is survived by his daughter Caroline, his longtime partner Victoria Nelson and was predeceased by his son Peter Kit.
Pete grew up as an only child, but his father and his Aunt Maria were very close siblings. Almost every weekend, Pete's mother, father, and aunt would gather to cook and enjoy each other's company. His aunt Maria had three wonderful children: Sophie, Olga, and James. Even though they were cousins, their bond was akin to that of siblings. And the children of James, Olga, and Sophie were very close to Pete. Although Pete was their second cousin, the children addressed him as Uncle Pete. Pete played a significant role as Godfather to Stefania Warwick, the daughter of Pete's cousin Teresa and her husband Jimmy.
Pete had a passion for both fishing and hunting. Whenever he had the chance, he loved riding his Harley. Pete was a member of The American Legion Riders Post 263. He was also one of the founding charter members of The Post 283 Riders.
Relatives and friends are invited to Pete's viewing on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 9:30 AM at the Fletcher-Nasevich Funeral Home. Requiem Services will be at 11 AM. Interment will be private.
"We are all devastated by Pete’s loss and were not prepared for the cost of a funeral service. We want to give Pete the memorial he deserves, to honor his memory and say our last goodbyes. So we ask that, in lieu of flowers, that you consider assisting us; you can do so by sending what you can afford directly to Fletcher-Nasevich Funeral Home (payable to the funeral home) to help us offset the cost of Pete's funeral".
