Peter Mecznik

Peter Mecznik, retired teacher and former athletic director at Roman Catholic High School, died Thursday, December 18, 2025.  He was 80.

Born in Ulm, Germany, Peter was the son of the late Teodor and Maria (Szpur) Mecznik.  Born shortly after the end of World War 2, Peter and his family emigrated to Belgium; they eventually emigrated to the United States in 1959, settling in Philadelphia.  Pete was a 1964 graduate of Roman Catholic High School where he played on the soccer team and he earned a Bachelor's Degree from La Salle College in 1968.  After graduation from La Salle, he entered the teaching world at Msgr. Bonner High School; after teaching at Bonner for two years, a position for a French teacher opened up at Roman Catholic and he joined their staff in the early 1970's.  He taught French and Spanish at Roman and also was their athletic director for a number of years.  He retired in September of 2000.

On May 11, 1981, he married Olga K. Kudryk and they established their household in the Olney section of the city.  

Pete is survived by his wife Olga.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Tuesday at 9 AM at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.  Requiem Services will be sung at 10 AM.  Burial will follow at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Elkins Park, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Pete's memory may be made to Roman Catholic High School or the Ukrainian Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
