Pellegrino “Perry” Marino, age 85, from Philadelphia, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023.
Perry was born on September 30th, 1937 in Biccari, Italy. In 1959, along with the love of his life, Rosaria Cristinziano, headed for the United States via the USS America ship and docked on Ellis Island, and went on to spend 60+ years living happily in Philadelphia and Brigantine Beach, NJ.
He leaves behind 4 children: Rosa Marino, Tony Marino (Eileen Marino), Anna Marino, and Lucy Marino (Andrew Thomas), 5 grandchildren: Anthony Marino (Kaitlyn Conaty) , Nicholas Marino, Victoria Marino, Griffin Marino Thomas and Parker Perry Thomas ; and his great granddaughters, Ariella Theurer and Alaina Skinner
Perry was the true American Dream. A young mechanic with no money, but an entrepreneurial spirit and a determination to find success, he worked hard and quickly saved enough money to open his first gas station. And eventually, with the help of his young son, opened and ran one of South Philadelphia’s most iconic mechanic shops, which still operates today: Marino’s Auto Repair.
A wine and soccer connoisseur, Perry also spent a lot his free time fishing, hunting, traveling, but he lived to enjoy a good meal with his family at the dinner table. A common favorite dish would be Pescatore with Linguine, and a Prosciutto and Cheese plate with olives and bagette.
We will honor Perry with an intimate family gathering to celebrate his life and his reunion with Rosaria in heaven. In lieu of Flowers, donations may be made in his name to National Centre for Padre Pio.
