Patrick J. Clancy, (Petie Boy), age 85, passed on June 30th at Methodist/Jefferson Hospital. Loving husband of 56 years to Mary M. (nee Fenton) Clancy, beloved father of Patricia K. Clancy and Michael P. Clancy and also survived by many other loving family members and friends. He was born in South Philadelphia and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and hung out with his friends at 2nd & Reed Streets. He met Mary at Merril’s in Brooklawn, NJ one Easter Sunday and married 3 years later.
He was employed at the Quartermaster Depot, Union Tank, Publickers Distilleries and, for many years, for the City of Philadelphia Police Automotive Division as well as the registration department.
He enjoyed music and was a member of Durning and Quaker City String Band and played both the bass and saxophone. He loved being down the sea shore spending his favorite past-time, crabbing & sipping on his little Rolling Rock beers because he could hide them easily in his pants pocket away from Mar. He also liked taking long walks with us on the board walk. He enjoyed cooking but eating even more, putting ketchup on everything. He had to start his day off with coffee and jelly or cream donut then get out to play the lottery. Pete was fond of dancing to the big band music with Mary but most of all telling his “corny jokes” and making people laugh. He truly got a kick out of tantalizing older family members – telling them that “It’s Over”.
He spent quite a bit of time chauffeuring his precious daughter and family members around town. He was everyone’s favorite driver before Uber ever existed. He loved Patsy’s girlfriends and if you got a wink and a big smile from him then you knew that you were “Special”. He also liked watching Jeopardy with his son Mike and once in a blue moon even got one right.
He was a good man and loving father and will be deeply missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing on Monday, July 11, 2022 at 9 AM and Funeral Mass at 10 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Committal Service and Interment will follow at New Saint Mary Cemetery, Bellmawr, NJ.
