Mr. Palassaril John Philip, dearly known as Kunjumon was born on December 06, 1944, in Vellikkara Palassaril House, Kavungumprayar, Puramattom, Thiruvalla, Kerala. He was the son of Late Mr. Itty John and Late Mrs. Mariamma John. He was a caring son, loving brother, devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and a strong follower of Christ. Kunjumon was known for his hospitality and affectionate nature.
On October 25, 1976, he married Mrs. Aleyamma Philip (Kunjunjamma) of Kurichiyil House, Parakkathaanam, Keezhvaipur, Mallappally, Kerala. Together they raised two strong God-fearing women, Latha and Sudha. Kunjumon migrated to U.S. in 1984 and worked hard to be able to bring his wife and kids to America within a year. Together they worked at Cardone Industries for more than 35 years.
Kunjumon was the fifth among his siblings, a beloved brother and brother-in-law to Late Mr. and Mrs. P.J. Itty, Late Mrs. Saramma Thomas and Mr. K.M. Thomas, Mr. P. J. Joseph and Mrs. Rachel Joseph, Mrs. Achamma George and Mr. V.C. George, Mr. P.J. Varughese and Mrs. Amminiamma Varghese, Mr. P.J. John and Mrs. Mariamma John, and Mr. Raju John and Mrs. Annamma Raju. He was also an uncle and great-uncle to many caring nieces and nephews and a loving cousin to many.
Kunjumon was an active member at Bethel Mar Thoma Church and continued his legacy at Christos Mar Thoma Church. He was very welcoming to all bishops and priests and made sure to keep a close relationship with them all. Kunjumon considered his greatest blessing to have the ability to serve others. He had a deep love for the Mar Thoma Church and was an integral part of all church activities.
Kunjumon is survived by his wife Kunjunjamma and together they shared 46 years of marriage. Their children Mrs. Mary John (Latha) and husband Mr. Kurien John (Roy), Mrs. Sudha Chacko and husband Mr. Sherin Chacko as well as his 5 grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Sarah John (Anju), Joel Chacko (Joey), Sharon John (Annu), Emmanuel Chacko (Manu) and Matthew Chacko (Leo).
Kunjumon has been fighting Pulmonary Fibrosis and was oxygen-dependent for a few years. Regardless of his health issues, Kunjumon’s unwavering faith carried him through his physical trials to become the strong Christian role model for his family and loved ones. He was always willing to put others' needs above his own. His passion for God and worship was evident through his passion for attending in-person church services regardless of his physical restrictions.
Kunjumon will always be remembered as a man of strong faith, a prayer warrior, and a family man. Kunjumon’s prayers for his family and loved ones will continue to be their strength and comfort.
