Oxana Farion

Oxana Farion passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026 after a prolonged illness.  She will be always remembered for her fun-loving spirit and enduring character. 

Oxana was born on July 6, 1935 in Lviv, Ukraine to Lev and Alexandra (Artymyshyn) Czubaty.  Their idyllic life in Lviv was cut short by the Soviet occupation of Western Europe in 1944.  Oxana and her two sisters, Christina and Alexandra, along with their parents were forced to flee their beloved Ukraine.  They initially traveled to Vienna and then later settled in Augsburg, Germany.  Oxana spent her childhood in Germany, enrolling in German schools and learning the German language.  At the end of the war, the Czubaty family emigrated to Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Oxana spent her carefree teenage years in her beloved Buenos Aires, fondly remembering these years as her happiest.  In Buenos Aires, Oxana met her husband, Evhen Farion, after winning a tango contest together.  They soon married and had two sons, George and Zenon.  While both boys were still babies, Oxana and Evhen continued their journey and traveled to the United States to find their “American Dream”.

Oxana and Evhen settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where their daughter Tania was born.  Life was full of hard work, determination and hope. Oxana was very diligent and ambitious in her career and was promoted to quality control manager in Kodak and GAF, overseeing massive photo processing operations.  Oxana always had time to volunteer in Ukrainian diaspora organizations.  She was an active member of the church council in St. Michael’s the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church and was the president of Sisters (Sestritsvo) of St. Ann for 5 years.  Oxana was also a lifelong active member of Plast, Ukrainian Scouting Organization.  In 1964 Oxana joined The Ukrainian National Women’s League of America, and dedicated most of her energy to this organization.  Oxana held various roles in the UNWLA ranging from being the president of the Philadelphia regional district for 9 years and culminating with the role of the 1st Vice President of the UNWLA National Executive Committee.  Under Oxana’s leadership, the UNWLA worked on many Ukrainian charitable cultural causes. The organization raised funds for the Ukrainian Museum, Ukrainian orphanages, and organized various national and international conferences.

Though Oxana dedicated herself to these many roles and organizations, her greatest accomplishment was her family. Her most cherished role was being a loving wife and devoted mother to her three children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandson. Her fun-loving nature made her a cheerful grandmother.  Her home was a magical refuge for all of her grandchildren where laughter was heard, home cooked meals were abundant and unconditional love prevailed.

She was predeceased by her husband, Evhen.  She is survived by her children, George (Christina), Zenon (Becky) and Tania (Andrew); and her grandchildren Katherine (Thomas), Larisa, Christopher, Alexander, Sophia (Adam), Adrian and great-grandson, Liam.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Oxana’s memory may be made to UNWLA.

Her family will greet friends on Saturday at 8 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church.  Requiem Liturgy will be celebrated at 9 AM.  Burial will follow at Lawnview Cemetery.
