Olga Hryshchyshyn Obituary

Olga Karbiwnyk Hryshchyshyn, born February 11, 1935 in Philadelphia, daughter of Roman and Theodosia Kowal Karbiwnyk passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at the age of 90.  She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Michael Hryshchyshyn.  Together they had three children, Michael Jr. (Adriana), Theodora Nemeth (Stephen) and Stephen (Kate).  She had seven grandchildren, Michael Nemeth (Carol), Lydia Hryshchyshyn, Stephen Hryshchyshyn Jr., Lynn Nemeth, Alexander Hryshchyshyn, Teodora Hryshchyshyn and Dimitrije Hryshchyshyn.

Olga graduated from Olney High School in 1953. She had many passions that she shared with friends and family and was particularly active in making jewelry and crafting ceramics.  She loved to sew and created lovely pillows, shirts, coats, hats, dresses, and curtains and drapes for her home.  She enjoyed assembling creative flower arrangements, and other hobbies included baking and Ukrainian embroidery.  When the Voloshky Dance Ensemble was formed she participated in making costumes and supporting the group.  She was a proud Ukrainian American, and this community played a foundational part in her upbringing and adult life.

She was an active member of St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the Ukrainian Orthodox League, the St. Olga Sisterhood and the Alex Koshetz choir.  She enjoyed Ukrainian folk dancing and enjoyed a good polka dance with “Gene”.  She was a Sunday School principal at St. Vladimir’s and very dedicated to her students.

Professionally, Olga was office manager of a small business called Laminex, part of the Rexham Corporation, in its Blue Bell, Pennsylvania offices.  To relax, she enjoyed sailing with her kids and family, especially on a trip with Stephen to St. Leonard Creek, MD with turtles to remember forever.

In later years, she loved and paid special attention to her seven grandchildren and helped raise them into the wonderful adults that they are today.

She had two brothers, John (Anna), Myron (Eugenia) and brother-in-law Bohdan Hryshchyshyn (Mary) and many nieces and nephews.  If you would like to make a donation in memory of Olga, please send your contribution to St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church with a note in the memo to the Hope Fund to support those in Ukraine.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Friday at 9 AM at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral.  Requiem Services will be sung at 10 AM.  Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery.
