OLEGUE ROSPUTKO (ОЛЕГ РОСПУТЬКО), a longtime resident of the Somerton section of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2023. He was 66.
Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Olegue was the son of Anna Rosputko (nee Cybulnyk) and the late Viacheslaw Rosputko. He is survived by his sisters, Julieta Fedkiw (Arkadij) and Olga DiSandro (Ernie) and predeceased by his brothers Pavel Rosputko and Volodymyr Rosputko. Beloved uncle to Adrian Fedkiw, Alex Fedkiw (Alyson) and Andrew Fedkiw and Nina DiSandro and Natalie DiSandro. Great uncle to Matthew Fedkiw and Madison Fedkiw.
In 1960, Olegue and his family immigrated to the United States in Philadelphia where he attended Olney High School. He worked with his father and brothers in the family’s business, Universal Foreign Car Service in Fox Chase (originally in Hunting Park). On February 14, 1976, Olegue was involved in a car accident that rendered him a quadriplegic; however, he never let that prevent him from living a full and independent life. He went to Colorado and worked hard to learn how to drive his handicapped equipped van. He drove that van everywhere, including Wildwood Crest, NJ, where he loved spending summers with his family.
Olegue survived for almost 47 years in his wheelchair due to the constant care of his resilient mother. He also received support from many, many friends and neighbors that became part of his extended family, especially his dear friend, Steve Hawras and his loving aides, Rose Mary Morrison and Ashley Gaines.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at 9 AM at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 6740 N 5th St, Philadelphia, PA 19126. Requiem Services will be sung at 10 AM. Burial will follow at St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, South Bound Brook, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Olegue’s memory to the United Ukrainian American Relief Committee, Inc.
