Nicholas Denkowycz died peacefully Wednesday, May 25, 2022 after a bout with pancreatic cancer. He was 76.
Born in Schweinfurt, Germany, Nick was a son of the late Andrij and Vera (Shura) Denkowycz. Nick and his family emigrated to the United States in 1949, arriving at Ellis Island before journeying to Baltimore, Maryland.
They later moved to Philadelphia where the family resided on 'C' Street in the Olney section of the city. Nick was a graduate of Murrell Dobbins Technical High School; he entered the United States Army in 1966, serving with the 2nd Battalion, 34th Brigade at Fort Lewis, Washington before being discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Nick worked for CSA Group in Philadelphia for many years as a project manager before retiring. He was a member of Ukrainian American Veterans, Post 1 and had served for many years on the Board of Directors of Voloshky Dance Ensemble. He was very active at his church as well as at the Ukrainian Educational & Cultural Center and he enjoyed teaching chess to his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Maria (Dremow) Denkowycz; his children: Nicholas Denkowycz, Jr. (Kim), Marianne Halt (Matt) and Michael; and his grandchildren: Aidan, Emily, Madeline and Finnegan. Nick is also survived by nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his siblings, Stan (Fran) Denkowycz and Anne Wetzel.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Wednesday at 9 AM at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Panahyda prayers will be sung at 9:50 AM with Requiem Services to follow at 10 AM.
