With sadness and sorrow our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Nadia Kuzma passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2020 at the age of 92.
Nadia, daughter of the late Pavlo and Paraskevia Gadach (Petryshyn), was born July 9, 1928 in the village of Zolota Sloboda, Berezhany district of Ternopil Oblast in western Ukraine. After being forced to leave Ukraine, she and her family lived in the Displaced Persons camp in Germany where she met her husband Mychajlo. Before emigrating to the United States, they had their first daughter who was born in Berchtesgaden. In February 1949, they emigrated to the United States arriving in Boston, MA on the Ernie Pyle. After settling in Baltimore, MD for a short time, they moved to Philadelphia, PA where their second daughter was born.
Nadia was the beloved wife of the late Mychajlo Kuzma. She is survived by her daughters Lubomyra Kalyta (the late Taras) and Marta Leszczyszyn (Edjo), her grandchildren Andreja Kulyk (Michael), Mark Kalyta and Talia Leszczyszyn (fiancé Shane Wyatt), great-grandchildren Michael, Matthew and Lukian Kulyk, and her brother George Gadach (Alexandra). She is also predeceased by her sister Natalia Lew.
Nadia was a dedicated, loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her talent and passion as a baker, as well as her love for her vegetable garden and beautiful flowers. She was a supportive and dedicated member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church and a truly loving person who enjoyed volunteering at the UECC and brought joy to those around her. Nadia had an incredible perseverance for life. Her family will remember her for the hard work and the sacrifices she made to give them a life of freedom and opportunity. Her compassion and kindheartedness will be missed dearly.
Viewing will be held on Friday at 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at The Annunciation of the BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church, Old York & Valley Rds., Melrose Park, PA, followed by her Requiem Divine Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Elkins Park, PA.
In lieu of flowers donations in Nadia’s memory may be made to The Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center or The Ukrainian Federation of America.
