Michael Kohut Obituary

Michael Kohut, a life long resident of Philadelphia, died Wednesday, September 4, 2024.  He was 66.

Born in Philadelphia, Michael was a son of the late John and Theodosia (Pastuszak) Kohut.  He is survived by his brother, Zenon Kohut (Zorianna) and cousins Andrew Pastuszak (Chris), Danylo Pastuszak (Oksana) and Larissa (Juzkiw) Leeper.

Michael Kohut was born on October 18, 1957 with developmental challenges that required 24 hour supervision.  Michael’s father and mother, John and Theodosia, and Michael’s older brother Zenon, did everything to accommodate these special needs.  However there came a time when they could no longer take care of Michael and had to place him outside of the home.  This caused immense family stress.  Michael’s mother was particularly distraught and made sure to visit him as frequently as possible. Eventually Michael was placed in a caring home under the care of Special People in Northeast.  One loving staff member who took care of Michael for twenty years said that Michael was like a brother to him.  May God bless him and all the devoted staff members who rendered loving care to Michael.

Michael was a loving and joyful person who loved to give and receive hugs and head rubs.  He loved listening to music.  He enjoyed long car and van rides.  He loved baths.  He developed a special relationship with his mother and sparkled with joy whenever she would visit him and bring his beloved Ukrainian cheesecake.  Having completed his life journey of 66 years Michael has now joined his beloved mother and father in eternity.

As Michael’s brother I am grateful for the many years of devoted care given by the staff of SPIN who have treated Michael as a brother.  May Michael’s soul rest in peace in the loving embrace of our dear Lord Jesus Christ.      Vichnaia pamiat!
