Metodij Boretsky, a retired environmental engineer who worked at the US Navy Ship Yard, Philadelphia, PA, died Friday, February 5, 2021. He was 97.
Born in Sambir, Ukraine, he was the son of the late Luka and Stefania Kvitosky Boretsky.
Metodij earned two Master's Degrees from Drexel University; Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering. His work took him to many areas besides the US Navy Yard; one example was the Beltzville Lake Dam that he designed and built. Beltzville State Park is a Pennsylvania Park in Franklin and Towamensing townships, Carbon County, PA. The park opened in 1972, and was developed around the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood control project Beltzville Dam on Pohopoco Creek.
He was a member of the Ukrainian Engineers Society and served as President for the local Society as well as for the National Society.
Metodij is survived by his daughter Donna Kyzymyshyn and her husband Nestor.
His viewing will be held on Friday at 6 PM at the Fletcher-Nasevich Funeral Home; Parastas Prayers will be sung at 7 PM. Metodij's funeral will be held on Saturday with Requiem Liturgy being celebrated at 10 AM at Annunciation BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church, Melrose Park, PA. (THERE WILL BE NO VIEWING ON SATURDAY). Burial will follow at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Elkins Park, PA.
Covid 19 protocols will dictate the attendance at Mr. Boretsky's viewing; there will be limits to the number of people in attendance and masks must be worn. Attendance numbers will also be limited at Annunciation BVM Church; the church is larger and can handle a larger number of people. Masks must also be worn in church.
