Kunjamma (Kunjoojamma) Mathews was born on March 1, 1945 in Mukkoottuthara, Kerala to the late Mr.Thomas Parolil and the late Mrs. Elizabeth Thomas. She was the youngest of four children. On December 10, 1968, Kunjoojamma married the late Mathews Kizkakken in New Delhi. In 1974, the couple along with their three year old daughter immigrated to and settled in Staten Island, New York.
Kunjoojamma was a prayerful person who was often seen with her rosary and Bible in hand. She enjoyed singing Christian Malayalam songs. She was an excellent cook who made a table full of food and always said that she did not cook enough. Her children were her life, sending them homemade pickles and snacks when they studied abroad. She was also known for her delicious homemade vadas.
Kunjoojamma is survived by her three children. Daughter, Sweety D’Monte and son-in-law, Mark with grandchildren, Bevis, Gail, and William; daughter, Seena Krishnan and son-in-law, Raj with grandchildren, Hannah and Judah; and Son, Siji Mathews and daughter-in-law, Veena with grandchildren, Jacob, Mary Kripa, and Isaac.
Kunjoojamma passed away peacefully in her daughter’s home on Wednesday October 22, 2025. Our Lord has taken away her pain and suffering. Dearest Mummy, thank you for your love and for your endless prayers. You will be missed dearly but we know you are in a better place now. Give our love to Daddy.
