Joseph Goldberg, a life long resident of Philadelphia, died in the early hours of Friday, December 22, 2023 at his home with family. He was 71.
Born in Philadelphia, Joe attended St. Ambrose Grade School and was a 1970 graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School. He enlisted in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1973. Joe proudly worked for SEPTA for many years, first as a bus driver and retired as a Deputy Director of Transportation. He was well known at work for his kindness, and always helping, teaching, and advocating for those who worked for him. He will be remembered for his heart of gold and greatly missed by his family, friends, and co-workers.
Joe was the father of Kristie (Gregg), Jaime, Stephen, Careen (Bill) and Joey and the late Elaine Marie Goldberg; he is also survived by his grandchildren: Morgan, George, Dean, John, Olivia, Wesley and Elya and his siblings: Judith Caesar, Betty Golden, Robert Ruff (JoAnne) and the late Patricia Ruff. He is also predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth Ruff Goldberg.
Joe's family will greet friends on Saturday at 8:30 AM at St. Martin of Tours RC Church, 5450 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Oxford Circle). His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM. Inurnment will follow at West Laurel Hill Cemetery.
