Joseph Donnelly Obituary

Joseph Francis Donnelly passed away peacefully at home in the Lawndale area of Philadelphia on Wednesday, August 7, 2024.  He was 68.

Joe was born in Philadelphia, a son of the late Marie (Betson) Joseph Bernard Donnelly.  He attended church and elementary school at St. Helena's Church and was a graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School.  He married the former Ruth Van Osten and they raised their children in the Olney section of Philadelphia where they lived for 55 years. 

Joe was a loyal employee of Germantown Hospital and Albert Einstein Medical Center for 45 years before retiring.

He is survived by his wife Ruth, his son Joseph Browne and his wife Michelle (Struckman) Browne and his daughter Brooke Arroyo and her husband Ramon Arroyo; he is predeceased by his son Justin Donnelly.  He is also survived by his grandchildren: Marc Arroyo, Ava Arroyo, Dylan Browne, Holden Browne and Nathan Browne; his siblings: Mark Donnelly and his wife Sandy (Wooler); John Donnelly and his wife Sue (Lyons); Denise Carlin (the late Gerald Carlin); Vincent Donnelly and his wife Luann (Strzelec); and Daniel Donnelly and his wife Sue (Burke). Joe was a Brother-in-law to Kim (Van Osten) Puhl, Wiilliam and Sean Van Osten (Ward), Jeff Van Osten and Michelle (Van Osten) husband Matt Smith and was Uncle Joe to 17 nieces and nephews and 13 great nieces and nephews. 

Joe's family will greet friends Friday, September 6, 2024 at 10 AM at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 211 S. Main Street, N. Wales, PA 19454.  His services will begin at 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Stephen Ministries at St. Peter's Church.
