John Sawchuk, passed away on Sunday, Oct 2nd. He lived a long and great life.
He is the true definition of the American dream. As a child he and his family lived as farmers in an area of Ukraine where borders changed. As a teenager, during WW II, he survived several years in a German slave labor camp. After WW II he immigrated to the US with just the clothes on his back. He went on to raise a family and work 30 plus years at a pharmaceutical company as a machinist. He was active in the Ukrainian church and community. He always put others ahead of himself. He was well loved and appreciated by all who knew him. Unfortunately time ran out for him and at 98 his body gave out. He will be missed.
John is survived by his children, Lisa Nowak (husband, Greg) and Eugene Sawchuk (wife, Holley); his two grandchildren, Michael Sawchuk and Paige Sawchuk and by his partner Roxanne Gilisinski. He is predeceased by his wife, Nadija Sawchuk.
John's funeral will be held on Friday, Oct 7th starting at 9 AM at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral; Requiem Services will be sung at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, South Bound Brook, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Vladimir UO Cathedral or to Hope, Inc. in John's memory would be appreciated.
