John Charles Horn, Jr., a life long resident of Philadelphia, died Friday, August 20, 2021 at his residence at the Philadelphia Protestant Home. He was 89.
Born in Philadelphia, John was the son of the late John C. Horn, Sr. and Anna (Martin) Horn. He grew up in the Olney section of Philadelphia; he was a graduate of Northeast High School and earned an associate's degree in engineering from Temple University.
John was an electrical engineer and draftsman; he worked on electrical designs on guidance systems as a government contractor for Westinghouse Company, Gould Instrument Systems and L3Harris SPD Electrical Systems. His work for these companies, along with his colleagues, resulted in a number of patents for the parent companies.
He married Marion Johnstone on April 10, 1965; they raised their family of four boys in Philadelphia. John and Marion were living in the Somerton section of the city when she died in 2003. He later moved to the Philadelphia Protestant Home in 2018.
John is survived by his sons: Andrew, Gregory (Karen), Matthew and James (Kristen); and his grandchildren: Alaina, Alyssa, Shawn, Daniel, Kelly and Anabella.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Thursday from 7 PM to 9 PM at the Fletcher-Nasevich Funeral Home. John's funeral will be held on Friday at 11 AM with his Funeral Service being held at 12 noon. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery.
