John T. Burke, a life long resident of Philadelphia, died Sunday, February 23, 2025. He was 86.
Born in Philadelphia, John was a son of the late William P. and Catherine (McGuckin) Burke. He was raised in the Hunting Park section of the city and he attended North Catholic High School and North East High School before leaving to join the US Navy at the age of 17 in 1955. His last duty station was aboard the USS Los Angeles; John was discharged in 1959 with the rank of HM3 (hospital man, 3rd class).
John worked for many years with Robert Bruce Clothing Manufacturing with plants on Ontario Street in Philadelphia; R Bruce later became Enro, based out of Kentucky. He retired from the company after 28 years, working his way to a vice president's role.
John married Stephanie Kusen in 1986; Stephanie survives him along with children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter Dawn Marie Brown; his son, John P. Burke and siblings Thomas Burke, William Burke and Dorothy D'Agostino.
Family and friends are invited to his viewing on Thursday at 10 AM at St. Martha's Church. John's Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM. Military Honors and Committal Prayers will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
