Helena Hruszanyk

Helena Hruszanyk, 96, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2026.  She will be remembered with great affection for her joyful spirit and enduring character.

Born in Radogoszcz Pinko, Poland, to Stefan and Olga (Koloszuk) Shykoluk, Helen faced the dark years of World War II before coming to America.  She embraced life in Philadelphia with a gentle grace and optimism, working as a talented seamstress and dedicating herself as a loving homemaker.  A woman of deep faith, she was a devout parishioner of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for nearly 75 years and remained an active member of the Ukrainian community in Philadelphia.

Above all else, Helen treasured spending time with her loved ones.  She was predeceased by her husband, Wasyl, with whom she shared a life of lasting love.  She is survived by her children, Slava (Andrij), Peter (Linda), and William; and her grandchildren, Elena, Luke, Alexandra, Andrew, and Amber.  She is also survived by siblings: Alex Shykoluk (Sally), Mary Nedecky, Anna Sikora (Peter) and John Shykoluk (Louisa) and many nieces and nephews.  Besides her parents she is also predeceased her brother Ken Syhkoluk and her sister Nadia Dyck.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Wednesday at 9 AM at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.  Requiem Services will be sung at 10 AM.  Burial will follow at Lawnview Cemetery.
