Gerald McBride, a longtime resident of the Bustleton section of Philadelphia, died Friday, April 29, 2022. He was 88.
Born and raised in North Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Thomas D. and Matilda (Fuchs) McBride. He attended St. Peter's Elementary School; after leaving high school, and briefly working for the Stetson Hat Company, Jerry joined the US Army in 1953. He served in the 981st Engineers Battalion at Fort Bragg and was discharged as a Corporal in 1955.
Jerry worked for many years as an accountant for a building supplies company before retiring.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Doris Eckert McBride. He is also survived by his children:
Patricia Kieba (Joseph), Kathleen Reid, Geraldine McGurk (John) and Christopher McBride; he is also survived by his grandchildren: Kristen Ruby (Dustin), Joseph Kieba, Lauren Reid and Lance McGurk as well as his great-grandchildren, Aubrey Kieba and Remy. Jerry was the brother of Elaine Pella and the late Thomas, Joseph, John and James. He was also the brother-in-law of Donald (Deb) and the late Al (Millie), Bill (Ceclie), Richie (Jenn), Emma and Dot (Charlie).
Relatives and friends can greet his family at 9:30 AM at Maternity BVM Roman Catholic Church with his Funeral Mass beginning at 10 AM. Burial will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry's memory may be made to Maternity BVM Education Fund.
