Obituary

George Tarasiuk of Newtown, PA passed away on Monday, July 5, 2021 at the age of 76 years.

George was the beloved husband of Maria Bohdanna (née Ratycz), who preceded him in death in 2006. He is survived by his loving wife Oksana (neé Bachynsky) and his beloved children Natalia Oleksandra and Andrij Jaroslaw.

George Tarasiuk was born on August 22, 1944, in Krakow, Poland, son of Mykola and Natalia Tarasiuk. His family found refuge at a displaced persons camp in Pforzheim, Germany from 1945-1949. The family immigrated to Cleveland, OH on July 4, 1949.

George graduated from West Tech High School in 1962 and subsequently earned his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree from The Ohio State University in June of 1967.

He married Maria (Mika) Ratycz on February 4, 1989. Their daughter Natalia was born in April of 1990 and Andrij was born in October of 1994. Maria died on April 7, 2006.  He later married Oksana Bachynsky on June 18, 2011.

George was a lifelong active member of the Plast Ukrainian Scouting Organization.  He proudly served as a counselor for 40 years from 1967-2007.  He also served in various leadership positions internationally and regionally in scouting branches and camps.  He was a member of the scouting fraternity “Lisovi Chorty.”

An active member of the Ukrainian American community, he served as the president of the Ukrainian American Senior Citizen Association from 2012-2015 and as a board member of the Ukrainian Federation of America.

George had a true heart of gold.  He was a faithful man who put others before himself.  He was an avid sportsman and active conversationalist who led a healthy lifestyle.  He cherished his moments on the golf course, tennis court, ski slopes, and outdoors.  Above all, however, he loved spending time with his wife and children.

His viewing will be held on Thursday at 6 PM at the Fletcher-Nasevich Funeral Home.  Parastas will be sung at 7 PM.  His funeral will be held on Friday with Requiem Liturgy being celebrated at 10:30 AM (there will be NO viewing on Friday) at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church, Trenton, NJ.  Burial will follow at St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, South Bound Brook, NJ.

Donations may be made to the Plast Ukrainian Scouting Organization - Philadelphia or Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center in Jenkintown, PA.
