Fred Salter Obituary

Fred J. Salter, 80, former resident of Ewing, NJ, most recently a resident of Clermont, FL passed away Monday, August 26, 2024 in Summit, NJ.

Born to Edwin and Edith Salter on October 14, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA.  Fred and his wife Peggy were happily married for 39 years prior to her passing.  He is survived by his loving daughter and best friend Karen Salter and son-in-law Chase Caldwell, both of Clermont, FL; his stepson James Marsland of Sellersville, PA; his brother James Salter formerly of Chevy Chase, MD currently residing in Clermont, FL, and his beloved lab Jasmine.

Throughout his life, Fred was known as an incredibly kind, compassionate, gentle, and caring human being whom everyone instantly loved. He began his pharmaceutical career by studying at the University of Florida and ultimately graduating from the University of Michigan.

He worked at the Medical College of Virginia before accepting a position at Bristol Myers Squibb in Princeton, NJ where he spent the majority of his career as the Director of Medical Information Services. He "retired" to Clermont, Florida in 2004 where he worked for a few more years as a hospital pharmacist at Florida Waterman Hospital in Tavares, FL.

He was known for his love of dogs, traveling, listening to Jimmy Buffett, great food, amazing wine, French bubbly, and cocktails (his favorite was the Frank Sinatra Manhattan that he was introduced to on one of his favorite Disney Cruise Line cruises). He greatly enjoyed time spent with his family and friends, especially time spent getting into trouble with his partner in crime, Andrea Bonaparte-Naideck, whom he adored. He was also known for playing a mean game of Rummy 500 where he would hoard all of the aces and scoff at two's.

Relatives and friends are invited to dress in brightly colored or tropical attire and attend a brief memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 31st at Sunset Memorial Park, 333 County Line Rd, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006 followed by a Buffett themed celebration of life full of Fred's favorite things at 179 Lookout Lane, Willow Grove, PA, 19090. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred's name may be made to either of the following charities close to his heart:  Polka Dogz Pet Rescue https://polkadogz.org/donate/ (dog rescue organization) or Love, Vincent info@lovevincent.org (charity in support of dogs battling cancer).
