Elisio Sa Couto passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025. Elisio was born in Portugal in 1937 to Americo Sa Couto and Perpetua Oliveira Leite. He was the protective older brother of Otilia Resende.
Elisio served in the Portuguese Air Force and continued his studies in engineering. He went on to be a respected professor at a technical engineering school and a valued professional player in many Portuguese soccer leagues.
He met the love of his life, Maria Elisa, and they married in 1967. They immigrated to the USA in 1974 with their son, Antonio. They began to build their life and welcomed their daughter, Michelle.
Elisio worked as a machinist. He worked enthusiastically as a teacher, soccer player, and coach within the Philadelphia Portuguese community.
He was an avid fan of classical music and loved playing the trumpet. He was also a handyman and artist who enjoyed fixing things around the house, drawing, creating sculptures, and crafting.
Elisio was a devoted member of the Catholic Church. His faith was a guiding force in life, and he served with grace and humility.
Elisio is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Maria Elisa, their son Antonio and his wife Jacqueline, their daughter Michelle, as well as his 4 grandchildren, Adelina, Christopher, Alexander and Sofia.
Over the years, Elisio made a powerful impact on his family and community, including his students, teammates, and colleagues.
