Our sister, aunt, great-aunt, godmother and friend Elehie Natalie Skoczylas—“Talia”— departed this earth the evening of July 11, 2022, after a prolonged illness. A Requiem Liturgy was celebrated on July 29, 2022, at the Ukrainian Catholic National Shrine of the Holy Family in Washington D.C., after which friend and family gathered to wish Elehie a fond farewell at a tryzna at her favorite restaurant in Columbia, Md.
Committal will take place on Saturday, 25 March 2023 at 1:00 pm at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Elkins Park, Pa., where Elehie will be interred in her final resting place alongside her parents.
Elehie was born in Makowysko, Poland, on December 2, 1940, and grew up in Poland, Austria, Germany, and finally, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where her late parents +Paulina and +Iwan Skoczylas raised Elehie along with her late older sister +Lida Lassowsky, and her surviving younger sister Roma Dockhorn. After completing her studies, Elehie settled in Washington D.C. and travelled extensively in her career as a U.S. State Department analyst. Upon retiring, Elehie moved to Columbia, Maryland.
In addition to her sister Roma (Robert Dockhorn), Elehie is survived by her sisters’ children Oksana Lassowsky (Boyan Onyshkevych), Daria Nebesh (Bohdan), Carl Dockhorn (Jessie Tan), Julian Dockhorn (Lee McKeever), and Michael Dockhorn (Tai Verley), and the great-nieces and great-nephews, godchildren, great-godchildren on whom Elehie doted irrepressibly and lovingly, and family and friends near and far. May she rest in peace.
