Edward Maciocha, Jr. Obituary

Edward J. Maciocha, Jr. left this world as gently as he lived in it, passing away peacefully in his sleep on August 24, 2024.  Born on November 2, 1946, in Philadelphia—truly a soul fitting for All Souls Day—Edward’s journey was marked by curiosity, kindness, and a love for the natural world.

He is survived by his devoted wife Bozhena, his brother-in-law Yari, cousin Brenda and a loving family from Ukraine.  Edward was the cherished son of the late Clara and Edward Maciocha.

Edward graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Production Management from LaSalle University, which paved the way for a distinguished 40-year career as a logistics specialist with the Naval Aviation Supply Office.  His career was a canvas of creativity and connection, including active participation in the American Creativity Association and numerous Earth Day events that showcased his commitment to both innovation and the environment.

A lifelong reader with an insatiable curiosity, Edward’s home was a testament to his love of books and unique facts.  He was equally passionate about the outdoors, where he enjoyed walking, hiking, biking, skiing and archery.  His favorite haunts included the trails of Pennypack Park and the scenic paths of Chincoteague National Wildlife Preserve, where he made many memories with his wife.  His connection to Chincoteague was deep-rooted, tied to his mother’s heritage and fond summers spent with his beloved grandparents.

Edward’s love for art and languages added vibrant hues to his life.  He spoke German fluently and had conversational skills in Ukrainian and French, and his travels often included visits to art museums that fed his soul.  His winning of a trip to Germany on a shortwave Deutsche Welle radio quiz show was a testament to his wide-ranging interests and talents.

Above all, Edward was a loving, kind and caring husband and a great uncle to his nephews.  His spirit of generosity and care will be missed deeply.

His legacy of love for the environment and his gentle, inquisitive nature will continue to inspire those who knew him.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday August 30th at noon at Fletcher-Nasevich Funeral Home.  Prayers will be recited at 1 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Edward to the Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust at www.pennypacktrust.org.
