With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Donald Alexander Nowak, a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Don passed away suddenly on February 18.
Born on May 29, 1959, Don grew up in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, and attended Lower Moreland High School, where he distinguished himself as an exceptional athlete. He earned 12 varsity letters in football, winter track, and spring track and field, and some of his track and field records still stand more than 45 years later—a testament to his dedication and talent.
After high school, Don attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, earning a degree in Finance and participating in the ROTC program. He was also a proud and lifelong brother of Sigma Chi fraternity, where he built friendships and memories that he cherished throughout his life.
Shortly after graduating, Don embarked on a distinguished career as a financial advisor, working with Phillips, Appel and Walden, Paine Webber, UBS, and most recently, Morgan Stanley. For Don, his work was never just a job—it was a calling. He deeply cared for his clients, considering them friends, and was committed to their financial well-being.
It was at Paine Webber that Don met the love of his life, Sylvianne (“Cici”), with whom he built a life filled with love and devotion. He was a proud and dedicated father to Caroline and Stephan, instilling in them his unwavering ethics and hard work ethos. He always hoped they would one day follow him into what he lovingly called the “family business”.
While Don wasn’t an avid traveler, he found peace and joy in recent years unwinding at the shore in Ocean City, New Jersey, a place that brought him comfort and relaxation.
Don is survived by his beloved wife Sylvianne (“Cici”), his cherished children Caroline and Stephan, his mother Patricia Smith Nowak, his brother Stephen Nowak, and his furry companions, Maya and Minnie. He also leaves behind his loving nieces and nephews: Emily Nowak Peregoy (Evan), Matthew Hennessey, Alexis Nowak, and Mark Hennessey.
Don’s kindness, integrity, and dedication to his loved ones will be remembered always. His legacy of hard work, love, and loyalty lives on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. His family will greet friends at 9 AM with Requiem Services sung at 10 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cathedral and to the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center.
Don, you will be deeply missed and forever loved. Bічная йому пам’ять!
