Dolores (Dolly) Scheid Obituary

Dolores Emily “Dolly” Scheid
September 24, 1938 – September 27, 2026
Dolores Emily Scheid (née Onaitis), lovingly known as “Dolly” and “Aunt Dolly,” passed away on September 27, 2026, just days after celebrating her 88th birthday.
Born on September 24, 1938, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dolores was the daughter of the late Edward A. Onaitis and Margaret Brown Onaitis. She later moved to New Jersey, where she and her beloved husband, Harry Raymond Scheid, built a life together filled with love, family, faith, animals, and many wonderful memories.
Dolly and Harry shared their New Jersey “farm” with an assortment of much-loved animals over the years, including dogs, horses, chickens, goats, and even a pet skunk. Her beloved dogs Shadow, Sunny, Misty, Pick, Sooner, and Angel preceded her in passing. She is survived by her grand-puppy, Thelma, who continued to bring her joy.
Above all else, Dolly loved her family deeply. She is survived by her brothers, Robert L. Onaitis, whose wife Catherine is deceased; William E. Onaitis and his wife, Mollie; and Arthur J. Onaitis and Carol Bucca; and her sister, Loretta Beasock, whose husband Eugene is deceased. She is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews and 39 great-nieces and great-nephews. Two of her nieces and nephews preceded her in passing.
A woman of remarkable creativity and many talents, Dolly had a passion for painting, cooking, and gardening. She could create beauty wherever she went, and her backyard was a testament to that gift—a lovingly tended oasis that reflected her creativity and appreciation for the world around her.
Dolly was also a breast cancer survivor, facing that chapter of her life with strength and resilience.
Her faith was an important part of who she was. A devoted servant of God, Dolly generously gave her time and talents to her church throughout the years. She volunteered in countless ways, including hosting events, welcoming others as a greeter, decorating, leading Bible studies, and singing in the choir. Her compassion extended far beyond the walls of the church, as she also “adopted” several families in need, quietly offering help, kindness, and love when it was needed most.
Dolly will be remembered for the love she gave so freely, her devotion to her family and faith, her creativity, her compassion for others, and the special way she made the world around her a little more beautiful.
Her life was one filled with family, faith, creativity, animals, service, and love. Those who were fortunate enough to know and love Dolly will carry her memory with them always.
A private Celebration of Life memorial will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Dolly’s memory to
Feast of Justice, c/o Memorial Church of St. Luke, 1946 Welsh Road, Philadelphia, PA 19115.
