Obituary

David Joseph Cook (affectionately known as Dave or Uncle Dave), aged 68, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, after a brief illness.  Dave was one of 8 children born to Herbert & Miriam Cook.  A lifelong bachelor, Dave never married or had children, but was a beloved uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He was born and raised in Philadelphia and graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School.  He held various jobs over his lifetime, including working as a background actor in feature films, with his most notable movie being, Invincible.

He enjoyed old cars and attending car shows.  He was a huge fan of classic rock and was convinced Emerson Lake and Palmer should have been inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame.  He was an avid sports fan and like many Philadelphia sports fans, he enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Phillies and the Eagles, as long as they were winning.

Having Uncle Dave around, meant there was never a dull moment.  He served as the unofficial family comedian and possessed an irreverent sense of humor with absolutely no filter.  He said all the things we wanted to say, and in the best way possible.  His one-liners kept everyone on their toes and forced us to be funny (or try really hard).  Whether he was making prank calls, convincing us that dogs could talk, dressing up our pets, or ordering pizza under the alias, Bugs Bunny, he was simply the best friend and partner in crime any kid, (or adult), could ask for.  His infectious laugh, sense of humor and life force will be forever missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by many relatives including his niece Jennifer Elliott (Hoger), (that lovingly looked after him during the last several years); Jeffrey Hoger (nephew); Robert Elliott and Austin Elliott (great nephews); Siblings: John Cook, Mark Cook, Susan Cook and Deborah Hoger; Katie Cook (niece), Stacy Byers (niece), Dana Byers (niece), and countless nieces, nephews.

Friends and family are invited to his memorial service on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at 11am at the Fletcher Nasevich Funeral Home, located at 9529 Bustleton Avenue, Philadelphia, PA.  An interment will take place immediately following the service at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery located at 3301 W. Cheltenham Ave., Philadelphia, PA.
