Daria (Stulkowsky) Kulchycky passed away peacefully on Friday, June, 24, 2022 at the age of 78. She is survived by her daughter Roxolana (Lana) Kulchycky, her daughter Sonia (Gatta) Laurenzi and husband Ian Laurenzi and their children, Maria and Joseph; her sister Oksana Winstead and family; her cousins Christine Bak-Boychuk and family, and Andrew Melnyk and family in Canada.
Daria was born on May 30, 1944 in Horlytsi, Ukraine, now Poland, to Olga Melnyk Stulkowsky and Dmytro Stulkowsky. She and her family fled Ukraine and the Red Army and lived in displaced persons camps in Bamberg, Bayreuth, and Pfortzheim, Germany until June 1949. Following, they emigrated to the United States, arriving first in New York on July 2, 1949, making their way to Maryland before finally ending up in Philadelphia in 1951. Daria attended St. Basil School, Ukrainian School, and was an active member of Plast, attending summer camps in East Chatham, NY. She graduated from St. Basil Academy in Fox Chase in 1962 and worked as a typist while taking business classes at Pierce Business School. She worked as a secretary for many years and finally in marketing at Ukrainian Selfreliance Federal Credit Union in Philadelphia until her retirement in 2010.
Daria lived in Bensalem and Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania with her daughter Sonia and was an active member of UNWLA Branch 88. She was very artistic and sold hand painted Ukrainian Christmas ornaments for many years at the UECC Christmas Bazaars. She loved traveling and enjoyed many trips during her lifetime from Europe with Oksana in the late 60s, to various states across the US, and even South America while Sonia was studying abroad in college.
Daria spent the last years of her life living in Nesquehoning, PA near Lehighton close to her cousin Christine and son, Peter. She enjoyed helping make pierogies at the Ukrainian Homestead as well as visiting her daughters in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
All are invited to her viewing on Saturday at 9:30 AM at Annunciation BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church, Melrose Park, PA. Requiem liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Cemetery in Elkins Park, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to United Ukrainian American Relief Committee, Inc or Annunciation BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church.
