Charles J. Taggart passed away peacefully on June 26, 2021 at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol, Rhode Island surrounded by his loving family. He was 99.
Charlie was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 12, 1921 to the late Charles and Margaret (Donovan) Taggart. He attended West Catholic High school. After High school, he enlisted in the US Army where he was trained as a radio operator in Burma during World War II. After the war, Charlie met and married the love of his life, Joan (Gibson), in 1950. He became a Philadelphia Firefighter and rose to the rank of Lieutenant. Upon his retirement in 1973, he worked as an accountant for his brother Joe’s business. He was an avid lover of music and an accomplished tap dancer. He enjoyed singing and playing the piano.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Joan. He will be sadly missed by his children Denise Rossi (Art), Charles Taggart (Marie), and Patricia Morelli (Tim). Devoted Grandfather to Jennifer (Patrick), Michael (Denita), Elizabeth (Marc), Timothy (Nicole), Mark (Sarah), Andrew (Caitlin), and Megan. Loving Great Grandfather to Noah, Luke, Ella, Gavin, Scarlett, Madelyn, Nicolas, Jack, Delaney, Charlotte, and Josephine.
He is survived by his brothers Frank (Lena) and Jack (Kathleen) and predeceased by Thomas (Bridget), Margaret (+ Bill) and Joseph (Elizabeth); he is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Thursday, July 8 2021 10 AM at St. Denis Catholic Church, Havertown. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM. Interment will be held at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield PA.
