Calvert Harvey, a retired City of Philadelphia police officer, died Thursday, March 19, 2020. He was 77.
Cal grew up on 'G' Street in Feltonville and was a graduate of Olney High School. He joined the police force with the Class of 1966 and was assigned to the 24th district where he served until he retired after 21 years, 4 months, 1 week, 3 days and 22 minutes. Cal enjoyed his work including court security when he was with the US Marshal Service and later with US Customs.
He never went anywhere without his cup of coffee; he played the guitar and always had a new song in his head and his heart. He will be deeply missed.
He married Colleen Weger in 1974 and they lived in the Somerton section of the city.
Cal is survived by his wife Colleen and his nephews, Eric Oberdorf and Kristen Oberdorf. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Karen Dobbs of Salem, IL; his brother-in-law Kirk Weger (Debi) of Terre Haute, IN; his niece Michelle Weger (Dan) of Robinson, IL and family; his nephew Kevin Goodwin (Teri) of Lanesville, IN and family; his niece Kelley Magill (Shawn) of Terre Haute, IN and family and his aunt Bertha Jones of Mason City, IL. He is predeceased by his sister Elaine Weatherby and his brother Kenneth Dunkell.
Due to the COVD19 virus, services for Cal will be private for his family with prayers led by Pastor Tony Tilford and burial at Pennepack Church Graveyard.
