Bohdan Turczeniuk

Ділимося сумною вісткою, що в середу, 1 січня 2025 р., отримавши священну Тайну Єлеопомазання, відійшов у вічність на 97-ому році життя, наш найдорожчий і незабутній Чоловік, Батько, Дідусь і Прадід

Богдан Турченюк народився 26 вересня 1928 р. у м. Красноставі, на Холмщині, як п’ята, наймолодша дитина в родині Івана й Віри (Мулярчук) Турченюків.

Коли Богданові було два тижні, його родина була переселена в глиб Польщі до м. Яроціна Познанський за вживання української мови.

Початкову освіту Богдан розпочав у м. Яроцін Познанський, а пізніше – в містах Холм, та Карльсфельді і Берхтесґадені в Німеччині, де закінчив навчання в гімназії. Вищі студії він закінчив у Монтреалі, Канада, куди переїхала вся його родина.

 У 1956 р. отримав диплом інженера з університету Меꥳл; і одразу почав працювати за його спеціяльністю.

У 1962 р. родина переїхала до Філядельфії, США і Богдан продовжував свою працю інженером у фірмі „Боінґ Вертоль”, де він працював 33 роки, аж до своєї пенсії. Там він отримував численні грамоти й нагороди за успішну працю. Окрім того, належав до Товариства Українських Інженерів Америки, і до Американського Товариства Вертольотів.

Покійний любив Пласт і був активним членом пластових станиць у містах: Берхтесґадені, Монтреалі та Філядельфії де він був станичним пару років. Був нагороджений Орденом св. Юрія в золоті за визначну діяльність у Пласті.

Любив спорт і музику. Співав у хорі церкви св. Архистратига Михаїла і деякий час був там дяком. Співав і був секретарем українського чоловічого хору „Прометей”, з яким у 1995 р. відбув турне по містах західної України. Брав участь у філадельфійській опері „Лис Микита”.

Був щедрим жертводавцем на народні цілі. Між ними, працював у товаристві „Самопоміч” добровольцем і весною 1996 р. займався і возив по містах Америки й Канади молодечий театр з України „Арабески”.

Діти й люди котрі його знали, любили його за щирість, доброту й готовість допомогти іншим. У його гостинній хаті в різні часи перебували знайомі й незнайомі люди.

На його пам’ятнику написані слова: „Любіть Бога, любіть Україну, і передайте цю любов своїм дітям”.

Дякуємо всім, що розділили з нами наше горе, взяли участь у похоронних відправах і виявили до покійного свою прихильність.

Просимо про молитви за упокій душі померлого слуги Божого Богдана.

Вічна Йому Пам’ять!

Похорон відбудеться у четвер, 9 січня о 9-ій год. ранку в церкві св. Архистратига Михаїла в Дженкінтавні, Пенсильвенія.

Із 9-ої год. ранку до 10-ої – прощання. З 10-ої год. ранку – похоронна відправа. Опісля, тіло буде поховане на українському цвинтарі св. Марії в Елкінс Парку, Пенсильвенія.

Замість квітів просимо складати пожертви для сиріт і родин пластунів, поляглих на війні в Україні.

Bohdan Turczeniuk

Bohdan Turczeniuk was born September 26, 1928 in Krasnostav, a city in the Kholm region of Ukraine. He was the youngest of five children in the family of Iwan and Wira (nee Muliarczuk) Turczeniuk. When Bohdan was two weeks old, his family was resettled to the city of Jarocin Poznanski in Poland because the family insisted on speaking Ukrainian.

Bohdan began his elementary education in Jarocin Poznanski, and continued in the cities of Kholm, and then in Karlsfeld and Berchtesgaden in Germany, where he finished his secondary education. He completed his higher education in Montreal, Canada, where his family resettled.

In 1956 he obtained his diploma in engineering from McGill University and immediately began working in his chosen field.

In 1962 the family moved to Philadelphia in the United States, and Bohdan continued his lifelong career as an engineer at Boeing Vertol Company, where he worked for 33 years until his retirement. There he received numerous certificates of achievement and awards for his successful work. Additionally, he was a member of the Ukrainian Engineers Society of America and the American Helicopter Society.

Bohdan loved Plast, the Ukrainian Scouting Organization, and was an active member of Plast branches in Berchtesgaden, Montreal and Philadelphia. He received the St. George Order of Merit (gold) for his distinguishing activities in Plast and led the Philadelphia chapter for several years.

He enjoyed sports and music. He sang in the choir of St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Church and was a cantor there for some time. Bohdan was also a member and secretary of the “Prometheus” Ukrainian Male Chorus; in 1995, along with the choir, he traveled on their concert tour of cities in western Ukraine. He also participated in the Philadelphia Ukrainian opera “Lys Mykyta” (“Mykyta the Fox”).

Bohdan was also a generous benefactor of other Ukrainian civic causes. Among them, he volunteered for the “Samopomich” Association and in the spring of 1996, he assisted the youth choir “Arabesky” from Ukraine in their tour of US and Canadian cities.

Children and adults alike will remember him for his sincerity, goodness and readiness to help others. At various times, his hospitable home hosted friends and strangers alike.

Bohdan’s gravestone contains the following inscription: “Love God, love Ukraine, and pass this love on to your children.”

We thank all those who shared our grief, participated in the funeral services and paid their respect to the deceased.

We request your prayers for the repose of the soul of the servant of God, Bohdan.

Eternal Memory! — ‘Vichnaya Pamyat’!

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, January 9 at 9 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Church in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania.

Visitation – 9-10 a.m. Requiem Services start at 10 a.m., followed by internment in St. Mary Ukrainian Cemetery in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you donate to support the orphans and families of Plast members, who died in the war in Ukraine.
