Bohdan Pastuszak

Ділимося сумною вісткою, що упокоївся з Богом Богдан Пастушак (2 лютого 1928 – 25 вересня 2024). 

Поховавши своїх сестер і брата, Богдан залишив в смутку дружину Орисю, дітей Андрія (з жінкою Крис) та Данила (з жінкою Оксаною) та внуків Алекса, Даню, Лану, Евана, Мілю і Реню, його племінника Зенона, та невістку Надю (+Влодко та їхні діти Марко, Наталя і Ляриса).
Відвідини відбудуться у суботу, 28 вересня, з 12:00 до 1:00г. в українській католицькій церкві Царя Христа на вул. Каюґа.  Чин похорону і останнє прощання з покійним після 1:00 год. Поховання відбудеться в інший призначений час.

Покійний Богдан Пастушак народився в Янові (в яворівськім районі, львівської області) у 1928 році.  Як наймолодший син з шести дітей, в молодості Богдан, полюбив спокійне життя в селищі – проходи, спокій та свіже повітря.  Коли почалась Друга Світова Війна, Богданові було лише 11 літ. А коли червона армія окупувала Україну, почалися переслідування Богданової родини за їхній антибільшовицький світовий погляд та національну свідомість. Щоб уникнути депортацію в Сибір, батько Михайло організував втечу родини до Польщі а пізніше дальше до Німеччини.  Після завершення війни родина роз’їхалась – хтось залишився в Німеччині, хтось повернувся до Янова, а Богдан виїхав до США. Там він продовжував науку в TempleUniversity i St. Joseph’s University у Філадельфії, що забезпечило його можливості забрати маму, брата та двох сестер до США.   

В середніх 60их роках, Богдан, як і багато молоді Філадельфійської округи, часто проводив вихідні в українській оселі в Лігайтоні.  Там він познайомився з Орисею Андрейко і згодом, в 1967, пара одружились та народили двох синів, Андрія та Данила. Родина уділялась в громадськім житті міста Філадельфії як члени церкви Царя Христа, Пласту, школи українознавства, Самопомочі та мешканці оселі ОДВУ ім.Ольжича в Лігайтоні.  

В 2007 подружжя Пастушак виїхали з Філадельфії до української оселі Ольжича в Лігайтоні де спокійно проживали.  Уділялись в громадськім житті оселі та церкві св. Володимира в Палмертоні. Богдан пишався коли відвідували онуки Алекс та Еван, внучки Даня, Лана, Міля і Реня, та племінники Марко, Наталя й Ляриса з дітьми – все радо слухав про їхні життєві пригоди та розповідав їм як колись було. Останні роки свого життя Богдан тішився товариством своєї дружини Орисі в місці їхної зустрічі, мав час читати і писати статті, дописи та книжки, та любувався краєвидами оточення.  

Любий Бобо, Тату, Діду, Вуйку! Хай цей останній Ваш прохід, зі свого вибраного місця проживання до місця де Вас Бог покликав, буде повний спокою, чудових краєвидів та свіжого повітря яких Ви настільки любили! Будем Вас все пам’ятати і любити. Спочивайте з Богом! 

We share with great sorrow that Bohdan Pastuszak (February 2, 1928 – September 25, 2024) passed away peacefully at the age of 96. 

Pre-deceased by his brother and sisters, Bohdan leaves behind his wife Irene and sons Andrew (Chris) and Danylo (Oksana), his grandchildren Alex, Danya, Lana, Evan, Milla and Renya, nephew Zenon, and his sister-in-law Nadia (+Walter and their children Marko, Nataliya and Laryssa)

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 29th 2024 from 12:00 – 1:00pm at Christ The King Ukrainian Catholic Church (1629 W. Cayuga Street, Philadelphia Street). Funeral services to follow at 1pm. Private internment will occur at a later date.

The late Bohdan Pastuszak was born in Yaniv (in Yavoriv district, Lviv region) in 1928. As the youngest of six children, Bohdan fell in love with the quiet life in the village – long walks, stillness, and fresh air.  When the German Nazis attacked Galicia, Bohdan was only 11 years old. By the time Red Army occupied Ukraine, the Pastuszak family was identified for their anti-Bolshevik views and Ukrainian patriotism. To avoid deportation to Siberia, Bohdan’s father Mykhailo organized the escape of the family to Poland and later to Germany.  After the end of the war, the family split up - some stayed in Germany, some returned to Ukraine, and Bohdan left for the USA. There he continued his studies at Temple University and St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, which enabled him to sponsor his mother, brother and two sisters to immigrate to the United States.

In the mid-1960s, Bohdan, like many diasporian youth from the Philadelphia area, often travelled to the Ukrainian Homestead in Lehighton.  There he met Irene Andreyko whom he married and started a family with. Along with their sons Andriy and Danylo, the family participated in the Ukrainian community of Philadelphia as members of the Church of Christ the King, Plast, Ukrainian schools, Samopomich Credit Union and are residents of the ODVU Ukrainian Homestead.

In 2007, the Pastuszak couple moved from Northeast Philadelphia to live permanently in Lehighton.  Bohdan looked forward to visits from his grandsons Alex and Evan, granddaughters Danya, Lana, Milla and Renya, and nephews Marko, Natalya and Laryssa - he was always happy to listen to their life adventures and tell them about life “back in the day”. Bohdan spent the last years of his life enjoying the company of his wife Irene, reading and writing articles and novels, and admiring the surrounding views.  

To our dear Bobo, Tato, Dido, Vyyko - may this last long walk from your chosen place to where God has called you be filled with the stillness, views and fresh air you so loved! We will remember and love you always! Z Bohom!
